concerns

Sometimes I see students who are really dedicated and take advantage of all the opportunities they are given. Some of them are producing some really creative products. I also see some who have technology available and yet do not seem to understand that they need to leave their problems and distractions outside the classroom and grab the opportunities that can literally change their future.

  1. I'm not sure that all students this age grasp the reality of just how important their decisions are to their futures. Adults have the luxury of experience at their disposal.
What could we do to bring home the reality of how decision-making, even on a relatively small scale (Should I do my homework now or watch another hour of TV first?)impacts their lives? I am an advocate of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, which I think Molly had planned to use with our students. For kids to buy into the work and dedication you need to succeed here, I think some of them might benefit from some type of additional coaching in that direction.

  2. I think it is absolutely essential to give all of our students guidance about planning ahead, especially with the the obvious difficulty many of them have making the transition from middle to high school.
